The Lease Guide

Taking on a commercial lease is an important commitment Usually it means signing up to pay rent for five years or more, plus agreeing to keep the premises in good repair. And even if you operate through a company, you're probably going to have to back it up with a personal commitment, so your home and other assets are on the line. Many businesses, though, sign up to leases without any professional advice, while the landlord has letting agents and solicitors on his side. It's not surprising that so many tenants end up with leases that don't do them any favours, and may get some nasty surprises down the line. Signing a lease without understanding what you're getting into can be a very expensive mistake. The Lease Guide does not take the place of professional advice on any individual situation, but it enables you to level the playing-field by increasing your knowledge about common lease terms, what the strength of your bargaining-position might be, and the legal background. It is divided up into lessons of seven to eight minutes, in the form of videos which you can view on any PC or portable device, and each lesson comes with a handy set of 'revision notes' which you can download and print as a reminder.
