Equine Assisted Therapy is an exciting and dynamic way of helping you to think about you. How you behave, how you think and how you feel.It''s a special session with horses, an opportunity to work with them in a different way to what you might already know or have done before. As well as the horse (or horses), there will be two people in the session with you - a person who has a lot of knowledge about horses and who watches what the horses are doing, and a person who is qualified in counselling or therapy and who are interested in you and what is important to you. This kind of work is about both doing and thinking. This means that you learn about yourself by doing activities with the horses, and then thinking about what happened. Horses are sensitive and honest and live in the moment. Working in this way with them will let you experience powerful animals helping you. Sessions usually last between 35 and 50 minutes and the number of sessions will be worked out to best suit you, however there would probably be no more than six. This way of working with horses is NOT about learning to ride or training horses. It''s different - it''s about working with the horses to look at the things that are not working well in your own life. These could be things like relationships, your communication skills, your confidence, fears and self esteem, building up trust, learning about respect, compassion and empathy, or developing your problem solving and coping skills.
