What Is The Goal of Acupuncture? The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, is to restore the body’s equilibrium. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that physical, emotional and mental are seen as interdependent. Sakina combines TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Five-Element acupuncture, two of the most common and most effective forms of traditional acupuncture in the Brighton & Hove area. She also practices electro-acupuncture as well as cosmetic acupuncture. TCM is well suited to treating a wide range of physical, mental and emotional symptoms; whereas the Five-Element style focuses primarily on treating the underlying constitution of the person, thereby bringing about profound changes in a person’s sense of well-being. What is Electro-Acupuncture? Electro-acupuncture is a form of acupuncture where a small electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. Electro Acupuncture can restore health and well-being, and is particularly good for treating pain, such as back pain, knee injury or shoulder tension. What is Cosmetic Acupuncture? Cosmetic Acupuncture (or facial acupuncture) is a very effective non-surgical cosmetic therapy that can successfully reduce or retard the signs of ageing by encouraging the smooth flow blood and nutrients to and around the face, a process that can also significantly benefit skin conditions (acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis). Your Initial Consultation With Sakina During your initial consultation, Sakina will ask you questions about your general health and the issues you would like to have addressed. This involves asking questions about your current symptoms and your medical history, as well as such things as your sleeping pattern, your appetite and digestion, and your emotional wellbeing. Women are also asked about their menstrual cycle and any past pregnancies and childbirth. You might feel that some questions appear unrelated to your condition but the information you give helps your practitioner to form a more complete picture of your health and lifestyle. She will also take your pulse on both wrists and may examine your tongue and feel for areas of muscular tension or pain. She then will select the most suitable acupuncture points for your condition. Relax & Enjoy Your Treatment… You then can completely relax for about 30mins whilst the treatment is under way. This is when most patients fall asleep and say they feel refreshed when they wake up. When your treatment is complete, Sakina will ask you how you are feeling and decide if you need to have another appointment or not. She uses very fine, painless, disposable needles for every treatment and combines acupuncture with other therapies including tuina, cupping and moxibustion, to ensure you get the results you want.

Acupuncture can also be an effective form of treatment during all stages of pregnancy, often when other treatments options are not available. We regularly treat pregnant women for symptoms associated with pregnancy such as nausea, fatigue, back pain, sciatica, varicose veins, anaemia, insomnia, oedema, constipation and heartburn as well as treating for breech presentation and induction of labour. We can also use acupuncture and acupressure as a woman prepares for labour and through all stages of childbirth. We offer home visits postnatally in the Brighton and Hove area. Using acupuncture during the menopausal transition can provide natural relief for many of the symptoms associated with hormonal changes at this time. Acupuncture can help to alleviate symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, fatigue, insomnia, as well as anxiety. At Acupuncture for Women, our belief is that acupuncture can support women’s health by improving the balance of their natural and cyclical patterns. By considering women from complementary diagnostic perspectives, we can offer valuable insights for improving her health, addressing the specific needs of each woman at different stages in their life cycle.
