There is not very much difference between counselling and psychotherapy. Generally the word ‘counselling’ is used for short term work where the focus is on problem solving. ‘Psychotherapy’ is more often used where the emphasis is placed on deeper emotional problems and may last a number of years. You may decide to come for counselling about a specific problem and then choose to spend longer looking at a range of issues and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. The most important aspect of counselling is the professional relationship you build up with your counsellor. A good relationship in therapy is one which is non judgemental and respectful and involves the establishment of trust. I aim to provide a safe, empathic and confidential environment for you to explore your problems and issues.

I provide a safe, calm, non judgemental and confidential space for you to bring any troubling thoughts or feelings you may be experiencing. I am professionally qualified and offer both long and short term counselling to individuals. Training, Qualifications & Experience I trained and qualified at the BACP accredited Manor House Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling where I gained a diploma in psychodynamic counselling. Areas of counselling I deal with AbortionAbuseAddiction(s)Anger ManagementAnxietyBereavementBullyingCareer CounsellingDepressionEating DisordersLow Self-ConfidenceLow Self-EsteemPersonality DisordersPost-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)Relationship IssuesSelf HarmSexual IssuesSexualityStressTraumaWork Related Issues Therapies Offered Psychoanalytical and Psychodynamic - Psychodynamic Therapy Fees £40 per 50 minute session. I also offer a low cost counselling service for those who are unemployed or on a low income. Further Information Why Choose Psychodynamic Counselling? In order for someone to make a long lasting change, one needs to have an insight and understanding of what has caused the initial problem in the first place. An issue that is causing you pain and angst in the present may well have its roots in the past, although the individual may not be aware of the particular connection. Psychodynamic counselling can help one uncover these hidden links, thus allowing the individual a greater freedom of thoughts. It is about exploring thoughts and feelings freely, becoming more aware of issues affecting ones life and enabling a person to make beneficial changes to his or her life. How it works You are given the space to talk openly about about whatever might be troubling you or feels most important - this may be thoughts, dreams, feelings, relationship concerns or events that have occurred in recent weeks that have had an impact on you. Together we will work to help you gain a deeper understanding of the possible causes and affects of such thoughts and feelings. Counselling may enable you to gain an insight in to aspects of the self that were previously unknown and will therefore allow you to see how these are affecting the present - perhaps finding ways of doing things differently as a result. The Session The session will be 50 minutes on the same day at the same time each week. The frequency of the session is essential and beneficial to the work, so regular attendance to counselling is a commitment. Confidentiality All that you speak of during the sessions will be kept highly confidential. Making The First Appointment If you are interested and feel you might benefit from the opportunity to be in counselling, then please get in touch via the contact page. The initial appointment will be an assessment whereby you can think about what you might want from counselling before deciding to go further and this usually lasts between 60 - 90 minutes. In the assessment, there is a chance for us to talk about that issues that are of concern to you and how being in counselling might benefit you. It''s in this meeting that we will decide on a convenient time and day for you to attend the sessions on a regular basis

I've enjoyed rigorous training with an emphasis on existential (long-term and time limited) approaches, and have also trained in brief solution focused therapy, groupwork, supervision, focusing, TIR, gestalt, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. I continue to follow new ideas & thinking to challenge & enliven my practice. I've worked in a variety of settings, with a rich diversity of people from wide ranging backgrounds & I am committed to an inclusive, multi-cultural & multi-ethnic attitude, valuing people from all backgrounds, abilities, religions, faiths & sexual orientations. While I aim always to maintain the highest professional & ethical standards, my manner is ordinary & approachable & I avoid any mystification of the work I do, encouraging a collaborative and open dialogue." Being human brings its challenges, and sometimes the challenges & difficulties we meet in life are hard to cope with & to make sense of on our own. The situations we find ourselves in and our fears & worries can often be difficult or simply unhelpful to share with people we already know. The aim of therapy at avenue practice is to provide a safe & supportive space for us to look at & explore together the things that matter to you. We shall also take stock & re-evaluate how you live your life & how you engage with the world & the people around you. This might throw light on new possibilities, which may in turn encourage you to live more deeply & with a greater sense of your own agency, even when circumstances do not favour you.

This might be the point at which we turn within and ask some questions... However in my experience, it can take some time and effort to make sense of our thoughts and feelings. This is where Psychotherapy and Counselling may be beneficial. I am in the 4th and final year of my training for my Diploma in Psychotherapy and counselling and can therefore offer low cost Therapy. Julia Bueno UKCP
London, London, N16 5PA
I am a qualified, experienced, and UKCP registered Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working in Stoke Newington, N16. I am also a member of the BACP. Talking therapies can have a reputation for being aloof, or even seen as an indulgence. They are also often misrepresented in the media. There are so many types, it can be overwhelming. You might feel worried about what will happen in therapy, or unsure which approach will work best for you. I hope to de-mystify what takes place in therapy so you can think about whether it is what you are looking for. If you''ve made it this far, perhaps you are feeling something that is getting in the way of things. Maybe you are sad, angry, anxious, low or struggling to like yourself. Maybe you are feeling ok, but you would like to improve how you relate to other people, face life''s challenges, or parent your children. You may be in a relationship that is struggling and needs help to get back on track. My experience has convinced me that talking about your concerns with someone trained to hear them, and respond to them, in a particular way, can be very helpful. It won''t "cure" you, or delete a painful past, but it can equip you to move on with greater ease, and perhaps pave the way for further positive change.

Karen Deeming Client Focused Psychotherapist
London, London, W1G 9QD
Experienced psychotherapist and counsellor offering a service tailored to individual need which frequently results in improved emotional well-being. I hold an Advanced Diploma and Master''s Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling which is a professionally UKCP accredited five year training. Naturally, each individual’s needs are different, this is why I chose to train as an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor rather than simply specializing in one theoretical approach. Integrative Psychotherapy means that I attend to the whole person, their perceptions, thoughts, feelings and physical experience working as a whole. It also means that I move flexibly among a range of approaches such as humanistic, psychodynamic, body psychotherapy and neuroscience, depending on your individual needs and personality. My sessions involve you and I meeting, talking and listening together with the mutual purpose of paying careful attention to your life and how you experience it. Therapy is a shared process so I think it is important for me to honour your privacy and personal independence and for me to create a non-judgmental nurturing environment so that you feel comfortable enough to talk about issues that are bothering you. My role is to facilitate your work in ways that respect your values, personal resources and capacity for choice within your cultural/spiritual context and recognize how they can sometimes be at odds with your actions or how you feel day to day.

counselling advice chiswick
London, London, W4 3BX
Hello, I am Edoardo and I have been practicing in Central London for a number of years. My private practice is in Chiswick, West London. My counselling service is strictly confidential and I follow a code of conduct, good practice and an ethical framework of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I work on a open ended basis or for an agreed time period so therapy can last from 6 weeks to over 1 year. I am offering a counselling service personalized to individual needs, which often stimulated an emotional personal grow. That’s why I chose to train as a Person Centred Counsellor. This means I am not here to give directions or solutions but I am a facilitator for my clients. I will not judge. I will accept my clients for who they are. I will offer empathy, unconditional regard, and active listening. Together we will work towards goals set by you. My sessions are a place for my clients to meet, talk, listen and together paying attention to their lives and how they experienced. My career as private practitioner and as a counsellor for few charities, has given me a wide experience, supporting people to find answers to their problems, solutions to their struggles, understanding the difficulties of life and working side by side to deal with their past, present and their way to relate to themselves and others. Besides my private practice in Chiswick, west London, I have provided counselling services at “Turning Point” working with people with drugs and alcohol addictions in west end, and I have also worked for “Bereft” working people with bereavement and loss in west London

Dharma Paul Counsellor
Newnham, London, E7 9LG
Counselling and therapy focus on the client''s issues. I do not advise you or suggest ways to solve problems. Instead, you and I think together about the issues that affect you. We each explore the feelings and thoughts you have about your life. Our first meeting forms an assessment. It normally lasts about 75 minutes. The aim is to identify your needs and explore whether psychodynamic counselling or therapy would be helpful. We may then both take some time to think about possible options. This might involve us agreeing to work together. If we decide to work together, you would agree to attend 50-minute sessions at the same time on the same day every week. We would then meet for regular appointments till we agree to end our work together. While many people attend weekly sessions, those who feel the need for more support often choose to attend sessions twice weekly or sometimes three times weekly.

However, I do also work with clients using short term therapy. We can discuss this more when we meet for our assessment. As I am an integrative psychotherapist / counsellor I will work with you to make choices about what approach might be useful for you. This might include using techniques which fall within any of the following approaches: Humanistic, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Transactional Analysis. The choice of approach will depend on what might be useful for you, and what might have worked before for that particular issue. When we first meet we can discuss this in more detail and see what might work best for you. I have recorded a vodcast to explain how I work, and what you can expect out of a counselling or psychotherapy session, and the link to this is shown in the photo & video section below. I am on the Survivors UK approved list of national therapists who specialise in working with survivors of sexual violence. In addition, I have been working in the LGBT+ community for several years. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I attend regular clinical supervision. Next step – The next step is to book an assessment. There is no obligation to commit to therapy, this is simply a chance for us to explore the possibility of working together. Dharma Paul Counselling and Psychotherapy
West London, London, W1B 5TF
